Accelerate at Any Age.

Accelerate at Any Age

David O’Meara, The One Mile Runner, inspires older athletes (30+ years old) to learn how to avoid injury, recover quicker and develop functional strength. These attributes are essential to achieving peak performance in any competitive sport.

As you age, your body responds differently to intense exercise and ultimately alters the way you need to train, prepare and recover. David uses his personal experience as a coach, trainer and masters runner to evaluate exercises, techniques and products to help you exceed your performance goals.

David OMeara - One Mile RunnerDavid’s own aspirations drive him to continually refine his processes and push his body to new levels of athletic performance. Essentially, he has created a personal “laboratory” to discover new training methods and prove his theories. David has been sharing his proven training and recovery techniques via blog videos. These exercise videos are now available via YouTube.

At 49 years old, David has proven that he can consistently run a sub-5 minute mile. But running 12 mph is not something you just wake up and accomplish without a lot of help.Click to View Video Library It takes special equipment, proper nutrition, and an understanding of how your body changes as you age. David relies on a team of seven consultants to help him research, understand and address the changing demands of his aging body. He has invited his personal consultants to share some of their unique health & fitness ideas via his blog. And to help you achieve your goals, these consultants are available to answer your questions.

David is a coach, author, speaker, and athlete. When he turned 45 in 2008, he celebrated with an event. It was personal challenge; a feat of speed. He was going to run 20 one-mile road races, in 20 weeks, in 20 different cities throughout the United States and Canada... each under 5 minutes. It was an experience of a lifetime. Every year since, David has developed and accomplished new personal, professional, and athletic challenges. The knowledge and experiences from these events is integrated into his coaching, writing, and speaking.Click to buy Creating Amazement on Amazon.com

2012 - The Isles Mile Challenge

The Isles Mile Challenge, the fifth One Mile Runner event in five years, combines the themes from our first four tours: speed/strength/endurance (2008), recovery (2009), international travel (2010), and adventure racing (2011). This time, the challenge is to run 7 one-mile races, on 7 different islands, in 7 different time zones, in 7 consecutive weeks. For this new challenge, we have chosen to go back to our original race completion criteria from 2008 – where every race must be completed in under 5 minutes – or David will need to re-run the race, during the same week on a different island in the same time zone, until he breaks 5 minutes. <more>

4/22/12 Orthotics - new and improved
I was there to meet our OneMileRunner.com Biomechanical Consultant, Vasile Faklis. The reason for my visit was to get fitted for my new orthotics. I have come to see the artist, Vasile Faklis, make my orthotics and customize my orthotics to fit me and my activities. I have a racing orthotic that is light and flexible, a training orthotic that is a bit more supportive, and a tennis orthotic that fits my movements for that sport. Indeed, there is a science behind orthotics, but it is also an art.

4/15/12   Cellulitis hampers first month of training
March was an interesting month as it began with a case of cellulitis of my right ankle and foot. Cellulitis is a skin infection that creates redness, swelling, warmth, and pain. Bacteria enters the body through a small cut or scrape of the skin. Even though I am highly susceptible to skin and blood infections, I have never had cellulitis before, so this was all new to me.

 3/7/12 Thai Massage
Training has begun for our OneMileRunner.com 2012 tour - The Isles Mile Challenge. Speed training began last week to test out my form in a series of sprints - 20 x 100 yards in 14-15 seconds followed by a new recovery modality entitled Thai Massage. At Wellness Concepts, our new Massage Consultant, Leah Macy, puts me through some of the various yoga-like positions of the ancient therapy (over 2500 years old).

2/9/12 Paes Accelerating At Any Age
Our tag line at OneMileRunner.com to "accelerate at any age" was fun to see in action at the end of January by one of my former students and Indian legends, Leander Paes, as he won the Australian Open Men's Doubles crown over the Bryan brothers to complete a career Grand Slam (US Open, Wimbledon, French Open, and Australian).
